Chapter 2 Safety

Safety

2.1 Authorised Personnel

MONORAIL and AMS systems should be installed by suitably qualified or trained specialists, such as installers who have read and understood these instructions.

2.2 Intended Use

  • MONORAIL and AMS are components intended for precision linear motion and distance measurement.
  • MONORAIL and AMS must be operated within the intended temperature range (MONORAIL -40°C to +80°C, AMS 0°C to +70°C).
  • Linear guideways of the SCHNEEBERGER type must not be used as safety components.

2.3 General Safety and Protective Measures

SCHNEEBERGER accepts no liability for damage caused by:

  • Improper handling, installation and/or maintenance
  • Improper use of guideways and/or measuring systems
  • Arbitrary modifications to MONORAIL and AMS

In extreme cases – such as when rolling elements are lost – the carriage may separate from the guide rail. Before each use, check whether this situation presents a risk of personal injury and use appropriate design measures to exclude such risks.

DANGER!

Danger to life from falling carriage!

In the event of overload or loss of rolling elements, the carriage may separate from the guide rail and fall.

  • All maintenance and modification procedures on wear parts must be carried out in an unloaded state.
  • Additional fall protection must be provided.
  • Design measures must be implemented to prevent persons from entering the movement area of axially sliding movements.

General Safety Requirements

  • MONORAIL and AMS are used with heavy loads that can only be lifted, installed and transported using suitable lifting equipment and sufficient personnel.
  • Before installation, MONORAIL and AMS must be stored in their original packaging and protected from moisture and damage.
  • MONORAIL AMS must be protected against magnetic fields. Direct contact may damage the magnetic measuring tape.
  • Disconnect the power supply before carrying out any work on electrical equipment.
  • Service work may only be carried out using original SCHNEEBERGER parts.
  • Observe all country-specific accident prevention regulations, standards and guidelines.

To ensure proper product function, the instructions regarding form and positional tolerances, dynamic limits, loads, lubrication and environmental conditions should also be observed.

2.4 Environmentally Responsible Conduct

Do not release lubricants and electronic components into the environment and ensure disposal in accordance with country-specific regulations.
