Closures are critical components that protect the bearing interior from contaminant ingress. myonic offers a variety of sealing solutions, from basic dust shields to the advanced Filmoseal technology, to meet different application requirements.

Three Purposes of Closures

Per the official myonic Closures page, shielded or sealed closures are used to:

  • Prevent contamination during handling or assembly of the ball bearings
  • Protect the inside of the ball bearing during operation
  • Retain lubricant and reduce its loss to a minimum

myonic Standard Closures - Type "V, Z, X"

The standard shields are stamped from stainless steel and provide non-contact protection. Because the shields do not contact the bearing inner ring, they do not increase the frictional torque, noise development or operating temperature. Depending on requirements, the shields can be supplied either permanently mounted or removable.

Limitations: Standard shields do not guarantee complete protection against external contamination from dust or the ingress of liquids. If complete dust/liquid protection is required, consider the Filmoseal sealing solution.

The standard shields are identified by one of the following letters, all belonging to the same category of non-contact shields:

Non-Contact Design

A clearance is maintained between the shield and the bearing inner ring; it does not contact rotating parts, and therefore does not increase the bearing's frictional torque, noise development, or operating temperature.

Stainless Steel Material

Stamped from stainless steel, providing basic protection against external dust contamination.

Flexible Supply

The shields can be supplied either permanently mounted or removable, to accommodate different maintenance requirements.

Filmoseal - myonic Exclusive Capillary Seal Technology (Type "F")

Filmoseal is a capillary sealing technology designed exclusively by myonic, combining the advantages of a non-contact shield with those of a seal. The Filmoseal code letter is "F", marked after the bearing type and before the size specification.

Working Principle

Filmoseal uses the capillary effect to form a continuous oil-film barrier between the shield and the bearing inner ring, with the following technical characteristics:

  • This design increases the circulation of lubricant inside the bearing, reduces lubricant loss, and significantly reduces the ingress of external contaminants
  • The outer ring is additionally fitted with an oil-impermeable PTFE seal, further reducing lubricant loss
  • Maintains the sealing effect without contacting rotating parts
  • Particularly suitable for bearings with an outer ring rotation (an airtight seal forms between the outer ring and the shield)

Filmoseal's non-contact seal is particularly suitable for high-speed operation, applications requiring protection against contamination, or bearings subject to high centrifugal forces.
